Sherbrooke SUNS is delighted to announce our
Big V coaches for the 2024 season
State Championship Women: Scott Gunther
Division 2 Men: Ryan Rooney
Youth League 2 Women: Chad Burton
Youth League 1 Men: John Dunlop
Chad Burton has been associated with Sherbrooke Basketball for too many years to admit to. He returned to the club in 2018 coached at VJBL level, then took the reins of our senior women’s program to bring the Division 2 Women’s team to Division 1 Grand final runners up in 2022 and now in our first season in State Championship Women, to the 2023 semi finals. In 2024 Chad will put his effort into developing our Youth League 2 Women to prepare them for moving up to senior level in coming years. We are delighted that Chad has taken on this role.
After working with our Youth League Men for the last three years, taking them to the Finals series in 2022 and 2023, Scott Gunther will be Head Coach of our State Championship Women’s team 2024. Scott brings his unique style of coaching to this new role and we are excited to see him work with our senior women this coming season.
John Dunlop has also been associated with Sherbrooke Basketball for many years as a VBL player (now BigV) and coach at both Big V level and VJBL. John returned to the fold in 2023 to assist with development of some of our junior VJBL players. John has been involved in basketball his whole life, loves seeing the improvement of all players and team cohesion. He is looking forward to working with our Sherbrooke Youth League Men.
It is Sherbrooke’s great pleasure to announce that our Division 2 Men’s coach for the 2024 season is Ryan Rooney. Ryan is a professional educator, has been involved in coaching for over 20 years. He has coached Melbourne tigers VJBL and Dandenong Rangers at State Champ level. Ryan has a great philosophy focussed on getting the best out of players, maintaining respect and focussing on the positives at all times. We welcome Ryan to the Sherbrooke SUNS fold and look forward to working with him in 2024.
Congratulations to Chad and John both stalwarts and great basketball people
